MESA – Maritime Europe Strategy Action

The European maritime community has joined forces to address future research and technological development challenges in a new research project: led by SeaEurope, the Maritime Europe Strategy Action - MESA (link: http://www.waterborne-tp.org/index.php/mesa) addresses strategic development lines in 4 main topics through dedicated “Thematic Technology Groups:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Safety
  • Production
  • e-maritime

The objectives of the Thematic Technology Groups are to:

  • Establish a network of Maritime actors to improve cooperation between the stakeholders and to strengthen the effectiveness of the research and innovation capabilities.
  • Cluster relevant research projects (EU and National) and assess the State-of-the-Art of the technology and its development.
  • Identify technology gaps and research and development needs for the updating the WATER-BORNETP Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda and Implementation Plan.
  • Improve the visibility of the research activities and dissemination of the results achieved; identify show cases and successful demonstration activities.

TTG 1 – Energy Efficiency carries on the work initially started in form of the GreenSeeNetwork which was described earlier in this space. Since autumn last year, a structure in form of a catalogue of topics relevant for the energy efficiency of ships has been created together with a first collection of relevant R&D projects. First results were shown during a project workshop on 5 March 2014 in Brussels. The presentations held by TTG 1 members can be downloaded below.
